Subject: Another Field Issue
Commissioners,
Michele Harmel (Peters Township Parks & Recreation Director) contacted me today to let me know that she was informed that a PTSA soccer team or teams have used the baseball outfield and infield at Elm Grove Park for soccer practice. By asking around, I have confirmed that to be the case.
As you know, all PTSA teams have regularly scheduled practice times on the fields for which we are "permitted" (the multi-purpose fields at PW Soccer Complex, PW Old Grasshopper, Elm Grove, Rees Park, and the Rees Park outfield) so I'm surprised a coach or coaches found it necessary to use the Elm Grove baseball field (apparently when we closed soccer fields for wet conditions).
Please remind all Coaches that regular practices (i.e. conducted by a PTSA coach or coaches with a core group of players) are to take place only on the field areas for which PTSA has been issued a permit. I hope that our Coaches would respect fields used primarily by other PT sports associations and honor them as closed if our own space is closed. Also, I've learned that the Elm Grove baseball field has been adopted for maintenance by a volunteer that lives nearby ... I can only imagine his upset and frustration to see soccer players on the infield there at a time when the soccer fields were closed. Sense how one of our own Adopt-a-Field volunteers would feel if, for example, the football association closed its fields and one of their teams showed up on one of our soccer fields to practice when not in use by PTSA.
Again, during a period when PTSA is trying vigorously to improve our field conditions in concert with PT Parks & Recreation Maintenance and our "Adopt-a-Field" volunteers, our credibility is harmed if some of our Members don't show respect for other fields while ours are closed.
Thanks for your consideration.
