U8 Reminders

U8 Coaches:

A reminder on field preparation for game day
It is the responsibility of the coaches of the 9am games to paint the lines on the field prior to game time. Ensure that all U8 fields get lined - not just "your" field for that day. Coordinate with the other 9am coaches as necessary. A good idea is to delegate this work to some of the parents on your team.

Also, I've listed below some very important reminders to pass onto your teams before the Spring season gets underway.

--Tony

Field Diagram
There is a new Peterswood Soccer Complex (PSC) field diagram. We rotated the fields 90 degrees clockwise from the fall season.

Spectators
Spectators should be located on the opposite side of the field from the team benches. Spectators should refrain from yelling out instructions and should not be located behind the goals.

Cleats
Metal cleats cannot be used. Also, baseball and football cleats with a "toe-cleat" cannot be used.

Referees
The referees are typically kids and are part of the learning process. Do not "make calls" for them. Please be patient and give them your respect. Always encourage them to be loud and vocal (as they are often timid).

Games
We play with 4 field players and a goalie (a.k.a. 5v5). Remember, a goal cannot be scored directly from a kick off. Get them to make a pass on kickoffs. Substitutions are unlimited. Everyone should get equal playing time. Make sure the kids shake hands and say Good Game after the game.

Fwd: Fields

Looks like the fields are officially opened today.

Commissioners, a friendly beginning of the Spring Season reminder to have the coaches check the hotline would be in order.  I received messages yesterday that teams were practicing while the fields were closed.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I did open the fields today.  If the commissioners could remind their coaches to stay out of the goal boxes during practice that would be helpful.  Even though we have had a few days of decent weather the fields are still wet (PSC in particular).

Creepy messages?  I guess I'll have to start letting my 10 year old leave them.
Yes the fields will be closed. I will update the message when I get back to the office.

Good question. I've cc'd the other U8 coaches.

I've also cc'd Steve Magnotti. He is our Fields Director, and the guy that leaves those creepy messages on the phone system. He may get a chance to check out the fields today, but I'm not sure. A few of us were out on the fields over the weekend to set up all of the goals/benches/bleachers and the entire space was unbelievably saturated with water. So, it's not looking good - would be my guess. As always, Steve's message is the law of the land.

Unfortunately, I've learned that these things are always Last Minute. I usually let my team parents know on my commute home from work (4-5pm) after I've checked the message myself. That way it gives Steve time to check out the fields and update the message.

Practice Schedule Updated

I've updated the U8 Boys Practice Schedule. Please check it out and note any changes that may affect you and your team .

Nothing major has changed - everyone is still in their requested time slots. However, I may have shifted you to another field number or location.

Also, thanks to the guys who moved to Venetia to reduce the traffic at PSC. I'll be eager to hear about the field quality at Venetia since it supposedly got some extensive work over the past year - so keep me in the loop.

First week of games canceled

U8 Boys Coaches:

Please inform your teams that our games this weekend have been canceled. Also, the fields are closed for practice for the remainder of the week.

I finished lining the fields Wednesday evening and they were extremely soggy. Additionally, the weather forecast does not look promising. So, I think it's best for us to cancel the games this weekend.

The games that were scheduled for this weekend can be rescheduled for June 2nd or June 9th, or not be played at all. It's up to you. If you decide to reschedule a game please follow the procedure on our website to contact the Referee Coordinator.

line fields

I know this is short notice but if anyone can help me set up and line some fields tonight I would appreciate it. I'll be at the PSC. I'll have my mobile 412.327.6464.

I'm leaving now, and staying until I'm done or the light fades away...

Fwd: Soccer Fields Remain Closed

Subject: Soccer Fields Remain Closed

Commissioners,

I just spoke with Steve Magnotti ... obviously, with the snow still covering the fields, they will remain closed until conditions permit them to open.  Steve will change the PTSA Coach Hotline # voice message tonight.

Please encourage coaches to find alternative means of conditioning (i.e. running the tracks at PTHS or the PTCC) and to communicate frequently to their teams regarding the delayed field opening.

Thanks.

Game Schedule Now Available

U8 Coaches:

The game schedule is now available on my U8 page.

Venetia Fields available for practicing

U8 Coaches:

The Venetia field has become available for us to use for practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Right now all time slots (4:30-5:30, 5:30-6:30, and 6:30-7:30) are open on those days.

I'd like to minimize the wear and tear on the PSC U8 fields this spring.

Is there anyone that would volunteer to move one or both of their practices to Venteia on Tuesday or Thursday? If so, let me know as soon as possible. First come, first serve.

PTSA Urgent Message: Fields Closed until Monday 3/19/07

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Peter Chiste <pmchiste@hotmail.com>
Date: Mar 11, 2007 4:25 PM
Subject: PTSA Urgent Message:  Fields Closed until Monday 3/19/07

Commissioners,

PTSA's Field Director, Steve Magnotti, has informed me that the fields will be closed this week with a tentative opening date of 3/19/07.  The Hotline # has been updated with this message as well.  Please inform all your coaches to respect the field closure ... though today is a spectacular, sunny day, the fields are still extremely wet from the extensive melt of the recent snow and ice accumulations, and persistent rain yesterday (further precipitation forecast to come this week too).

Encourage your coaches to have their teams focus on conditioning during this field-closure week ... running the indoor track at the PTCC or PTHS tracks, for example, or players bicycling the Montour trail ... these are activities that can be great team-bonding and conditioning events.

Thanks for your consideration.

Pete Chiste

p.s. We should respect other associations' fields as well ... please instruct coaches to not use other areas (e.g. football field, baseball field outfields, etc.) when we close our fields.  As you know, this happened a couple times last Fall and it caused some ill-will with other sports associations.

Fwd: Field lining at PSC

We got snowed out last weekend.

Any help setting up and lining the fields this Saturday morning would be appreciated. If so, let Stephen Magnotti know.

Looks like we will be able to line this Saturday.  Lets plan on meeting at 8:00.  It shouldn't take that long as long as enough people show up.

Tony - I know that you will not be there but I thought I would forward this to you so you can spread the word to see if you could get any more volunteers.

Dave - Not sure if you can make this but could you make sure the supplies are in the shelter if you can't.  Thanks for completing Elm Grove.  That's a big job for one person to complete.

Jim - If you want to spread the word to the Grasshopper coaches thats fine.  We will be there.

See you all Saturday.

Spring Soccer is just around the corner. Some notes for the coaches:

Rosters
Any roster changes will be sent out over the next week or two. Please let me know if you have a player that has quit for the Spring session.

Fields
We were unable to line the fields on Sunday due to the snow. We're going to try again over the next two weekends. Let me know if anyone can help.

This is a reminder that there will be a Coaches Meeting tomorrow evening from 7pm-9pm at the Rec Center. I won't be able to attend so if you want information on the meeting you'll have to go yourself.
