Re: Fields Closed until 11am - check back later

A good question, so I'm bcc'ing the rest of the U8 coaches.

The answer is... I don't know. I'll need to check with the Fields guys to see. I know that some major work was to start at Peterswood Soccer Complex, but I'm not sure of the timeframe.

I'll see if I can dig up an answer soon. Worst case is that I'll find out at our PTSA Board Meeting on Monday night.

Fields Closed until 11am - check back later

U8 Coaches:

The fields have just been closed until 11am.

Make sure you still (a) pick up your trophies and (b) pick up your pictures.

We are to check the hotline before 11am games to see if they open.

What a bummer of a last day.

One last time: Thanks to all of you for your time this year. It is always greatly appreciated.

Re: Please send me your U8 Ratings

Al:

This is a really good question so I'm bcc'ing the rest of the U8 coaches on this email.

The answer is that you rate your players based on how they played this year, relative to all of the players in U8 this year.

See OP17 (I have a link below) for discerning between the ratings (e.g. A's are in the top %10-%20).

Hey Tony,

Are we supposed to rate the U-7s  in relation to the U-8s who will be moving up in age group in the fall?  In other words, I have some U7s who are pretty good playing with other U-7s, but they struggle when they're out there against u-8s?  Am I rating them on how I think they'll be next season, when they are the older players, or on how they've done this year?  Thanks,

U8 Coaches:

It's that time of year where you are responsible for sending me your Ratings for your U8 team.

As documented in the Ratings section in the PTSA U8 coaches Guide:

Each coach is responsible for rating their players at the end of the season (i.e. after the spring session). The rating of players: A, B, C or D is based upon the coach's judgment. Use A high and D low. There is also a "special needs" rating of E for children with specific issues. See item OP17 in the online PTSA operating procedures for more detailed information on how to properly rate your players.

A quick note to all commissioners, we have ordered and received all the player trophies for this year.  As in the past, the trophies will be available to all coaches at the pavilion at Peterswood on top of the hill overlooking PSC on the morning of 5/31 (7:30 - 11:00).  I would ask that all coaches pick up their player trophies prior to their game, so they can hand them out to their team following the game.

Board Members, Commissioners, Coaches and Parents,

The Annual soccer picnic will be on May 31, 2008, at Peterswood Park Shelter #1 from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.  I will need people (parents and coaches and commssioner and board members) to help out throughout the day.  Set up will begin at 8 AM getting the shelter swept, tables covered, coolers filled, stuff set out and put up signs.  Grilling starts at 9:30 AM.  Throughout the day, help will be needed to cook hot dogs, keep coolers filled, empty garbage cans and keep supplies out.  My soccer game that day is at 3 PM (at Reese).  So I will need someone to take over around 2:30.  I will return after my game to help clean-up.  I will buy / bring all the supplies, but we will need coolers for drinks, ice and raw hot dogs.

Commissioners, please send this message to your coaches and have them send to their parents (yes, parents can help out).  All volunteers should e-mail me with the time they can help.

Take care.

Subject: Street Soccer

Commissioners, Coaches,and Board members:

Please send out the word about Street Soccer. Last Saturday we had four very talented PTHS players come and coach our young players. The PTSA players really loved playing with and learning skills from the High School players. Our young players received great training and played a ton of soccer just for fun. More of our kids should have this experience. Please send out this message to as many PTSA families as you can.

Thank you
Manny Politis

Who:
Grasshopper through U12, registered PTSA players
No pre-registration required
Wear soccer gear, bring ball (with name/phone # on it), and plenty of water

Place & Time:
Saturdays: May 3, 10, 17
5-7 pm  in Peterswood Park Soccer Complex

Goal:
Players get a feel for "street soccer" where they're in control of the game and largely supervise themselves; they can play free of the fear of making mistakes in front of adults, and they can be creative on the soccer field and experiment with learned or self-invented moves.

Schedule:
20 minutes
PTHS Varsity Soccer players will teach individual soccer techniques
The use of 1 v 1  match related activities will help players perfect their skills against the opposition in more demanding situations.

100 minutes
Participants play "street soccer" in a "pick-up" game environment
n  Small sided teams are randomly assigned; play 5-10 minutes on a rotational basis
n  No adult coaching, refereeing or feedback: the kids play games (supervised by PTSA coaches), where they motivate themselves, figure out how to use the learned techniques and play in a fear-free environment.

Venetia Lining

U8 Coaches:

I've heard that the lines are almost gone at Venetia, so just a reminder:
The 9am coaches (regardless of where your game is played) are responsible for all U8 Boys fields, including Venetia.

This weekend it is Dave Grzyb and Kevin Hoffman (the home team coaches) that need to coordinate.
Brian Deyarmin and Robb Scott (the visiting coaches) should make themselves available to help.

Thanks.
